Search and Rescue

“For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.”  Luke 19:10

Did you know that Christ came on a search and rescue mission?  He entered our reality on a mission to find those who were lost in the wilderness of sin and despair.  And he has an intensity and a willingness to expend every possible resource at His disposal to find those who are lost and in danger.  The reason he is so intense in the search?  His family members are the ones who are lost.

And we are not just disciples and members of Christ’s family.  We are also, everyone one of us, individuals who have been rescued by Christ and his search and rescue team.  Although we didn’t know the way out, Christ in His relentless pursuit, continued to search for us until we were safe and sound in His family.  We know what it is like to be lost.  We know what it is like to be separated from hope.  We’ve been there.

A disciple doesn’t allow his lost experience to stray far from his mind, because they remember exactly what Jesus did in order to bring them out of the wilderness.  The moment they lose sight of this is the moment they lose sight of the importance of helping others out of the same wilderness that they themselves were lost in.
