“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth…”  Matthew 6:19

Your generosity says a lot about what you value here on earth?  It reveals what you think about, what you desire, and what you see as important.  Jesus makes it very clear in the Sermon On The Mount that worry and anxiety are associated with storing up treasures on earth.  His message to His disciples is that we should be worry free. If we invest in the Kingdom with generosity, He will supply all your needs.  (Matthew 6:33)

Matthew 6:19-20 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

A disciple can’t be generous when they put all their time and energy and heart into earthly treasures that are only temporary.  But when our treasures are in the Kingdom, in things that are eternal,  then when we stand before God, we will stand knowing that our generosity reflected the character and nature of our Judge.
